时态（Tense）（1）
时态是英语谓语动词的一种形式，表示动作发生的时间和体态。英语谓语动词时态意义主要是通过谓语动词形式本身的变化而实现的。
1. 一般现在时
一般现在时表示习惯性的动作、讲话时人或事物的特性或状态以及客观真理等。谓语动词除第三人称单数需要改变形式外，该时态常跟有一个含有频度或现在概念的状语，如always,never, every day等。
1） 习惯性动词。
e.g. He often goes to the cinema.
2） 现在所处的状态。
e.g. Lucy’s mother is ill.
3） 表示现在的能力、特征、职业等。
e.g. Mr. Smith teaches French.
4） 客观真理。
e.g. Summer follows spring.
特殊用法：
1） 用于时间和条件状语从句中，代替一般将来时。
e.g. If it is fine tomorrow, we will go on a picnic.
2） 表示按日程、计划将要发生的动作或事件。常与arrive, be, begin, end, go, leave, start, stay等动词一起使用。
e.g. The delegation arrives in Beijing this afternoon.
3） 用于报刊的新闻标题中。
e.g. Wildlife flourishes in Jilin Reserves.
2. 一般过去时
一般过去时表示在过去某一时间发生的动作或存在的情况。谓语动词用过去式。该时态常跟一个表示过去时间的状语，如then, at that time, just now等，或者一个由when, while等引导的表示过去的时间状语。
1） 表示过去某时所发生的动作或存在的状态。
e.g. Liu Ying was in America last year.
2） 表示过去经常或反复发生的动作。常接时间副词often, usually, always, sometimes, every day/week等。
e.g. We often went out for a walk after supper.
