Society
American society has changed greatly since the beginning of the 1960s.The Civil Rights Movement and the Women’s Movement significantly improved the social positions of African Americans and women. Both of the two groups no longer suffer from legal discrimination.Furthermore, affirmative action policies have helped both groups to better their social and economic conditions, although women and blacks in particular still lag behind the national average economically.Besides,American families have also experienced great changes during the course of the country’s history.
In America, people are increasingly concerned about individual rights.Individualism has been a very important ideology in American society. The society as a whole has become more tolerant toward people who do not follow traditional cultural conventions.
