II.The Process of Hospital's Secularization and Its Embodiments

Hospitals were originally founded by the church in ancient Rome.At that time,in order to realize God's‘benevolence’,the church built many hospitals for the poor and the sick,bearing the name of‘religious houses’.Roy Porter,appraising the acts of the church's founding hospitals,said that even in such highly developed ancient countries as Rome and Greece,there was no evidence to testify that there were social institutions for the sick and the poor,consequently,hospitals were a masterpiece of the Christianity.^[3]With the conquest of Britain,Rome brought this relief institution to this island.^[4]
