1.3　The Organization of the Paper

This paper is divided into four chapters：

Chapter One is the introduction of that relates，in the main，development of pragmatics，pragmatic account of Sense and Sensibility，current study on Austen and her work，and research methodology.Chapter Two is the literature review of SAT and the relationship between irony and SAT.Chapter Three mainly introduces types of ironic language materials from the perspective of both macro and micro ironic speech acts.Chapter Three also gives us a brief survey of Sense and Sensibility and a brief introduction of the author's irony in this novel.Chapter Four is the main part of this paper，that is，the use ofboth Austin and Searle's speech act theory into the language materials of Sense and Sensibility.
