Over t he past decade,t here have been substantial i mprovements in our understanding of the i mpacts of dams on riverine environ ments,and particularly those associated with hydr opower devel op ments.In line wit h t his increased knowledge base,the management of environ mental issues arising fro m hydropower is under going rapid i mprovement.Targeted st udies and monitoring pr ograms have identified viable mitigation options and pr ovided long-ter m assess ments of their effectiveness.Increased legislative and regulatory mechanis ms have also driven t hese i mpr ovements.Changes in t he appr oach to pr oject planning and design have resulted in the maxi misation of positive outcomes and the reduction in severity or avoidance of i mpacts.(https://www.daowen.com)
