Hydro-electricity,provided that it is developed and operated in a sustainable manner,will play an i mportant role in addressing so me of the major global challenges of t he t wenty first century.
One of t hese challenges is to alleviate poverty and increase living standar ds t hr ough the provision of aff ordable access to water,electricity and basic services.This is a necessar y step towar ds achieving more equity bet ween diff erent socio-econo mic gr oups within nations,and bet ween developed and developing nations.
Anot her major challenge is gl obal war ming.This is t he worl d’s most pressing environ mental issue and requires the increasing develop ment of less car bon intensive met hods of ener gy pr oduction.(https://www.daowen.com)
On both counts hydro-electricity is making,and will continue to make,a significant contribution.
