◎Sun Bin
Sun Bin (c. 379 BC-314 BC),a descendant of the strategist Sun Wu,was a native of Le'an Town (present-day Shuguan Town,Daming County,Handan City) in the State of Qi,and later moved to Anle Town (presentday Echeng Town,Yanggu County,Shandong Province). He was a political strategist and the representative of the military strategist school. Sun studied military strategy under the tutelage of the hermit Guiguzi. Pang Juan, his fellow student and colleague, was later appointed as the general by King Hui of Wei,but out of jealousness,he framed Sun for treason, had Sun's kneecaps removed, which was a cruel punishment at that time, and prevented him from meeting the King of Wei. Later,Sun was rescued by Chunyu Kun,the envoy of the State of Qi,and sent to Qi where he became a retainer in the residence of Tian Ji,the general of Qi. Sun helped King Wei of Qi to establish his supremacy and took revenge on Pang. Later,Sun followed Tian to the State of Chu,retired from service because of political entanglement in the court and led a reclusive life as a hermit in his later years. He was honored as Count Wuqing and listed as one of the 72 generals of Wu Miao (temple to military heroes) by Emperor Huizong of Song. Sun was also the writer of Military Science of Sun Bin.(https://www.daowen.com)
