Located in the northeast of Hebei Province, Qinhuangdao borders Yanshan and Heishan Mountains on the north, and Bohai Sea on the south.It adjoins Suizhong County, Jianchang County and Lingyuan City of Huludao City, Liaoning Province on the east and northeast; Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County of Chengde City, Hebei Province on the northwest; and Qian'an City, Luanzhou City, Luannan County, Laoting County and Qianxi County of Tangshan City, Hebei Province across the Luanhe River on the west.Its geographical coordinates are 39°24′ to 40°37′ North Latitude, and 118°33′ to 119°51′ East Longitude.It is 74km wide from east to west, and 132km long from south to north.Its latitude is basically the same as that of the capital Beijing, Datong of Shanxi, and Jiayuguan of Gansu.It is 290km from the capital Beijing and 220km from Tianjin on the west, and 483km from Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, on the southwest.
Qinhuangdao now governs four urban areas, including Haigang District, Shanhaiguan District, Beidaihe District, and Funing District; three counties, including Changli County, Lulong County and Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County; and two economic zones: Qinhuangdao Economic and Technological Development Zone and Beidaihe New District.By the end of 2019, Qinhuangdao's permanent resident population was 3.15 million,including 1.91 million urban residents.There are 42 ethnic groups, that are mainly concentrated in Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County.Xihenan Village in Beidaihe New District is the only Korean autonomous village in Hebei Province.
