1 Education

In Britain, the administrative responsibility for education lies mainly in local education authorities(LEAS).The central government has virtually no role in the operation of schools, employment of teachers and provision of textbooks and other teaching resources. The function of the national government’s Department for Education is to set policies and standards and provide funding. In 2011,the British Government spent roughly£90 billion on education, about 6% of GDP.Institutions of education in Britain enjoy a good deal of independence in their operation. However,in the last few decades there has been a trend for the central government to get more actively involved in order to make the system more standardized and effective.
