1 Culture

As the population of the United States is made up of more than 100 ethnic groups from all over the world, the country has often been described as a“melting pot”where immigrants from different ethnical and racial groups assimilate into American culture, taking on a new identity as Americans. At the same time, this view holds that they preserve many elements of their own cultures and contribute them to the larger whole, thereby changing their adopted country’s culture as they are changed by it.As the motto“E pluribus unum”(“Out of many, one”)on the Seal of the United States implies, while people in the United States are of diverse ethnicities, they live together as one American people.
