8.1 Major Findings
The present study, within the theoretical framework of the Linguistic Adaptation Theory, has drawn a picture of the advice-givers’ identity construction in academic advising interaction in a Chinese context. It has examined the categories of identity and the linguistic choices made for their construction, the dynamic construction of identity and the communicative needs and contextual correlates in this process. The major findings on each of these aspects are presented in the following sections.
