The Great Black Heavenly God
Shihe Village in Jianchuan county consists of two villages：Shanghe Village and Xiahe Village.According to the legend，the Great Black Heavenly God was originally a waiter of the Jade Emperor.
On the 3rd of March in the lunar calendar，when the Jade Emperor was in the court，the official on duty came to make reports continuously：a number of great immortals did not come to the court；they were found to flee to the human world.Sitting on the dragon chair，the Jade Emperor blew his beard and glared at the official.The Jade Emperor wondered，“What's new in the human world？Why did so many immortals flee to the human world？Can't the good wine and fairy peach and fruits compare with the human's plain tea and simple meal？Today I'd better go to see it！”With this thought，the Jade Emperor came to the southern gate，and ordered the Cloud God to clear the cloud so he could see the human world.
Ah ah ah，the scene astonished the Jade Emperor.What he saw was the spring scenery of Shihe Village.The peaches were red，the willows were green，and spring swallows were dancing.In the south of Xiahe Village，Jianhu Lake was as clean as a mirror；and on the back of Shanghe Village，the pine trees were green，and the mountain springs were babbling.The fields were in full vigor：the young girls of the Bai in white clothes and green sleeves and red vests，like magpies，were singing beautiful tunes of the Bai while collecting green seedlings；while the young men of the Bai were enjoying plowing the fields with the oxen.The boats were floating on the lake，and the fishing songs were heard now and then.The little shepherds were naked and were playing with water.Where could you find such a lively spring scene in the heaven？
The more the Jade Emperor saw，the more jealousy he felt，and he could not tolerate a world better than his heaven.After returning to the palace，the Jade Emperor called Emperor Hao Tian to bring a bottle of the drug for causing a plague，and sent the guard beside him to spread it to the human world to kill people and livestock and make the tree die and water dry！
The guard to whom the Jade Emperor gave this order was not only handsome but also kind-hearted.He did not want to do this evil thing，but the Jade Emperor issued the decree.He had to come down to the earth with the plague medicine against his will.He came over to Shihe Village in the middle of the night with a cloud.People were having sweet dreams.The earth was quiet，and only the wind blew the flowers and sent out the fragrance.Oh，what a peaceful and beautiful world！The guard opened the drug bottle and was in a dilemma.He could not bear to destroy such a beautiful world by sprinkling it down，but if he violated the Jade Emperor's decree and did not spray the drug，he would be sent to the guillotine，or into the prison forever.What should he do？Suddenly，with a rooster's loud shout，the sun was about to rise，and the industrious Bai people began to go to the fields.They were laughing and shouting，and the cows were mooing and the horses were neighing...This voice of life touched the guard's heart，and he could not bear to throw the drug into the human world.Then what should he do？He determined to sacrifice himself to save all living things，so he drank all the drug down.
The world avoided a great disaster.But the guard's handsome face was burned black，like a hornet's nest after drinking the drug.In an instant，his body swelled up and suppurated.He could not drive the cloud with soft feet，and then he fell into the back hill of Shanghe Village.
Tai Shang Lao Jun told this story to the people in Shihe Village via a dream，and the villagers were so moved that they regarded the guard as the Village God，and built a temple for him in the place where he fell.He was honored as the Great Black Heavenly God for his name being unknown.
