2.4 The Significance of Historic Personality’s Res...
The sustainable preservation and utilization of the historically significant residences is the process which integrates the traditional area and culture into our contemporary life, based on the sustainable development strategy. From the perspective of sustainability, these memorial residences are not only part of the fabric that makes up a society’s cultural heritages, but also a part of urban life.A living historic heritage site in a modern city will benefit the local region in many aspects, including strengthening local identity, improving the cultural education levels, developing the cultural tourism industry and stimulating local economic development.
Therefore, preserving and using historic personalities’ residences combined with sustainable development strategy is undoubtedly the feasible ideology to guide the related theoretical research and practices. To solve problems relating to preservation and development of historic memorial residences with respect to local urbanization levels, and to take the sustainability principle as the basis to preserving, designing, operating and managing these residences requires establishing a forward-looking theoretical foundation for the future of heritage sites.
