Although the Jinan Municipal Government is sparing no effort to establish an image of ‘Historic Personalities’ city, the protection status of the historic personalities’ residences is relatively poor.So far, a protection regulation for these kinds of residential heritages has not been formulated or proposed.In addition, due to the different property rights and different status levels of the residences, protection methods and protection standards are not unified.This leads to cultural loss of some residences held through private property rights, due to the lack of maintenance funds.Without proper funding and knowledge, obsolete protection technology is employed, along with poor management, resulting in the degradation or loss of any surrounding environment.After a series of historical changes and urban development, the number of historic personalities’ residences in Jinan has decreased from 46 to 10, and the original environment of the most of these residences has almost completely disappeared.It is of great importance to carry out a cultural sustainable development plan to preserve and revitalize these residences and related environments.Therefore, it is vital to explore the specific preservation and development methods that can be implemented with regard to cultural sustainability of the historic personalities’ residences in Jinan.
