3.5 Mucinous Carcinoma
Term:Also known as gelatinous carcinoma,it is a rare type of invasive breast cancer that originates from the ductal epithelium of the breast and is characterized by a large amount of extracellular mucus production.
Clinical manifestation:
●Longer clinical course and slow tumor growth
●Palpation is mostly a lump with a clear boundary and a tough texture
●The location of mucinous adenocarcinoma is mostly in the upper quadrant of the breast, just like other invasive ductal carcinomas.
●Misdiagnosed as benign tumor
Population distribution characteristics:
●Mucinous cancer accounts for 1%~7%of all breast cancer
●≥75 years old women account for 7%,≤35 years old women account for 1%
Mammography:
●Round,oval or lobulated,irregular high-density lumps
●Simple mucinous carcinoma:border clear or tiny lobulated
●Mixed mucinous carcinoma:blurred edges,infiltrating or burr-like changes
MR:
●T1W1 edge is smooth or fuzzy, oval or micro-lobular tumor, signal intensity is affected by mucus protein components, with equal and low signal performance
●T2W1 fat suppression phase, simple type mucinous carcinoma:homogeneously distinctly highsignal;mixed mucinous carcinoma:homogeneous or heterogeneous high signal(https://www.daowen.com)
●Progressive reinforcement
●DWI showed a high signal and the ADC value was higher, which was significantly higher than the malignant tumors of the breasts including various pathological types we have previously summarized.
●Continuous or platform hemodynamic curve
Image inspection recommended:
●Best image inspection method:MR
