8.1.6 Postoperative Radiotherapy After the Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

After modified radical mastectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy indications can not be based only on pathological staging, but also refer to clinical staging before neoadjuvant chemotherapy, because pathological staging only represents the extent of residual disease after chemotherapy, although neoadjuvant chemotherapy can reduce tumor's period, but did not reduce the risk of local recurrence to the same level as patients with the same pathological stage but did not receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The MD Anderson Cancer Center conducted a retrospective clinical analysis of 150 patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy and 1031 modified radical mastectomy patients who did not receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy. All patients received no radiation therapy. The results showed that patients with neoadjuvant chemotherapy had a higher local recurrence rate[12]than patients who did not receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the same pathological stage.Postoperative radiotherapy for high-risk patients after modified radical mastectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy can significantly improve the efficacy.(https://www.daowen.com)
