It would be impossible to tell the story of Huashan Hospital without telling the story of the nurses who for 110 years have cared for the patients and families of Shanghai，and beyond，with expert clinical knowledge，judgment，compassion and care.While nursing is a very visible profession with the white uniforms and caps，it is often not fully understood.Nurses are at the patients'side at times of great joy and sadness；their knowledge and experience can alert other members of the team when a patient's condition has changed，teach a patient how to manage their illness and live a healthy life.The book you are holding，“Care for Life with Love”will help all who read it to truly understand the unique role nurses play in the lives of patients and in health care.In this book，Huashan Hospital nurses tell the stories of their work，their commitment and passion for their patients，their colleagues and for working with all members of the team to create a hospital where safe high quality care thrives.
The book is organized in five parts each reflecting the unique role nurses have in the care of patients and success of Huashan Hospital，the five parts are：

In each part，you will be as we were，as we read the stories of Huashan Hospital nurses，the nurses we have known and collaborated with since 2010；through visits between our hospital Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Massachusetts in the United States and Huashan Hospital.Through these visits we worked together to create a culture where the sharing of stories helped define excellence in nursing practice，commitment to patient and family centered care and a culture of excellence.
This book contributes to rich legacy of nursing at Huashan Hospital and will serve as a reminder to all who read it，that for a hospital to be great，it must first have a great nursing service；Huashan Hospital is a great hospital.
