A princess who can fight
Disney now has its first Southeast Asian princess（东南亚公主）—Raya.A new movie called Raya and the Last Dragon came out in theaters on March 5，2021.
The story takes place in a world called Kumandra.There are five states in this world that fight each other.Raya is the princess of one of the states.She needs to find the world’s last dragon Sisu so she can save the five states.On her journey，Raya fights evil forces（邪恶力量），as well as learns to trust others and be more responsible（有责任心的）.
Once upon a time，being a Disney princess meant waiting for a prince（王子）to save you.But Raya is different.“She has more than romance（浪漫爱情）on her mind，” the Los Angeles Times said.
Besides Raya，most of the main characters in the movie are female（女性）too.They stand out on their own instead of acting as supporting roles for men.Namaari was once a friend of Raya.But now she is an enemy（敌人）.Namaari is a strong and brave fighter，just like Raya.
Adele Lim，the movie’s screenwriter（编剧），says she likes “the spirit（精神）of the female characters”.“They are great fighters and very autonomous（自主的），” she says.
A metaphor in the movie?
The evil force in the movie is quite special.It’s a cloud of black smoke（烟雾）.It can turn people into stone（石头）.Many people think it is a real-world metaphor（象征）for COVID-19.Both of them kill people and leave behind a broken society（社会）.
The movie suggests a way to fight this evil—trust.Sisu tells Raya: “Maybe the world is broken because you don’t trust anyone.You just have to take the first step.”
