Mechanical Property

The compressive strength of rammed earth is in the range of 6～10 MPa for cement-stabilized and 1.5～3 MPa for unstabilized[3].As per British[5]and New Zealand Standards[4],in single-storey construction,the characteristic wall strength required is about 0.5 N/mm2.From the test results(Figure 2),the average characteristic strength obtained was much higher than 0.5N/mm2,which shows that rammed earth can be used with full confidence.
