In junior high school, Xiaojing put a lot of/lots of efforts in English learning and made great progress.Yesterday she was told by her elder sister that she would have to memorise more new words and grammatical rules would be more confusing. However, she loves English and hopes to become a better English learner. So she writes this email to Alan in order to get some advice.
2.Alan’s advice on Xiaojing’s worries:
Words: understand and remember them in context; try to use them in different situations;
Grammar: understand its building blocks (understand the building blocks of the grammar); spend enough time, make an effort and practise
Alan’s advice on keeping her interest in English learning:
Suggestion 1: Listen to English songs.(https://www.daowen.com)
Reasons: It is one natural, relaxing and effective way. 1) It helps to keep the interest in learning English;2) It also helps to improve the listening skills, expand vocabulary and helps to learn grammatical structures without boredom;3) It can even help to practise pronunciation.
Suggestion 2: Watch movies, especially animated ones.
Reasons:It is another interesting way to learn English. 1) The dialogues are simple;2) The movies are filled with body language and facial expressions.

David: Hi, Xiaojing. You wrote an email to Alan Miller’s Corner the day before yesterday. Has he written back to you?
Xiaojing: Yes.
David: Could you share his advice with me?
Xiaojing: Sure. I asked him about vocabulary and grammar learning. He suggested that I use new words in different situations and understand the building blocks of the grammar. Oh, he told me that time and practice are important.
David: That’s for sure! Anything else?
Xiaojing: Yes. He gave me two suggestions on keeping interest in learning English.
David: Wow! That’s interesting!
Xiaojing: Yeah. He said I could listen to English songs and watch animated movies, because they are interesting and relaxing. What’s more, they can help to improve my listening and pronunciation.
David: I guess we could learn vocabulary and grammar from them.
