（1）sport：运动；游戏；娱乐，通常指户外运动，以锻炼为主，概念较大；多指户外的游戏或娱乐活动，如打球、跳高、游泳、钓鱼、打猎、赛马和拳术等。如：
Swimming is his favourite sport.
游泳是他最喜欢的运动项目。
Skating is one of the winter sports.
滑冰是冬季运动项目之一。
注意：复数形式sports可指运动会。
He created a new record in high-jump at our school sports.
在我们学校的运动会上，他创造了跳高新纪录。
（2）game：游戏；比赛，不管户内、户外，还是脑力、体力，指以胜负为主的运动；特别指决定胜负的游戏，通常有一套规则，凡参加者均须遵守。如：
The 2008 Olympic Games was held in Beijing.(https://www.daowen.com)
2008年奥运会在北京举行。
（3）match：竞赛、比赛，多指正式比赛。如：
Our school football team won the league match.
我们学校足球队取得了联赛冠军。
（4）race：赛事，赛跑。如：
They were great and won the boat race.
他们很棒，赢得了划艇比赛。
另外athletics虽然也是体育，但主要指田径运动，而且不常用。
