（1）kind：种类；性质。指属于同种类的东西，用法比较庄重。性质相同，且有极相似的特点，能在分类中置于一起作为一类者。如：

I don’t like the people of that kind.

我不喜欢那种人。

This restaurant offers all kinds of Chinese food.

这家餐馆提供各种各样的中国食物。

（2）sort：种类；方式；品质。指大体相类似，较为含糊，常可与kind替换。但有时也可指贬义上的东西。如：

I hate that sort of action.

我厌恶那种行为。

I’ll never do this sort/kind of thing.

我绝不会干这种事。

（3）variety：多样；种类；多样化。指若干本质上相同或根本不同的东西在形式上或品质上的多样化。a variety of表示“种种，多种多样的”。如：

Several varieties of products are on show.(https://www.daowen.com)

许多农产品在展出。

At school we learn a variety of things.

在学校我们学习各种东西。

（4）type：类型；品种；样式。是仔细明确的按客观条件划分的集群。指“型，类型”。在kind中可分不同的type。如：

This is a new type of apple.

这种苹果是新品种。

I saw a new type of car in front of his house.

我在他房前看见一辆新型的小汽车。

另外，species指相同种类的生物，强调“物种”。strain指植物的品种、种类。如：
