When developing hydr opower pr ojects,gover n ments and pr oponents shoul d ai m to achieve the f ollowing outcomes.

1.Pr oviding affected co mmunities wit h i mpr oved living conditions.

2.Improving public health conditions f or i mpacted co mmunities.

3.Ensuring equitable distribution of t he benefits of t he pr oject,particularly to affected and vul nerable communities,through processes such as revenue sharing,training pr ogrammes and educational outreach.

4.Ensuring that the local knowledge of communities and stakeholders is utilised in pr oject planning.

5.Supporting additional co mmunity infrastr ucture associated with the project,particularl y water and electricity connection,where positive benefits to the co mmunity will result.(https://www.daowen.com)

6.Ensuring that displacement is dealt wit h in a fair and equitable manner.The br oad guidelines required to address displacement are:

To investigate all possible pr oject alter natives to ensure t hat displacement is avoided or mini mised where feasible;

To plan t he resettle ment thor oughly,where displacement is necessary,ensuring that adequate resources are available to enable the displaced groups to share in t he benefits of t he pr oject;

To ensure adequate and on-going consultation with those groups or individuals t hat will be displaced,so t hat t hey have input into bot h the planning and the i mplementation of the resettlement program;

To provide displaced gr oups wit h sufficient assistance to ensure t hat their livelihoods are i mproved or,as a mini mu m,to ensure that they are reestablished at no disadvantage;and

To i mprove standards of living for both the displaced co mmunities as well as the host co mmunity,where applicable.
