◎Jia Dao:A Deliberate Poet
Jia Dao (779-843) was born in Fanyang (now Zhuozhou,Hebei Province,or Fangshan,Beijing) in the Tang Dynasty, styled Langxian. When he was a child,he lived in a poor family and became a monk at Yungai Temple in today’s Jing County,Hengshui. After converting to Buddhism,he not only meditated and recited sutras every day,but also loved reading and writing poems. He planted many maple trees outside the temple.Because of a discussion whether using “push” or “knock” in the verse that “birds lived in the trees beside the pool, and a monk pushed the gate by moonlight,” he got to know Han Yu,a great poet of the Tang Dynasty.Han Yu suggested “knock” and Jia Dao strongly agreed.Influenced by Han Yu,Jia Dao resumed secular life and strived for an official post, and became the Recorder (Zhu Bu) of Changjiang County. After three years,he was promoted to Si Cang Can Jun of Puzhou. He wrote the Collection of the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang Ji).After Jia Dao left Yungai Temple, local people changed the name of Zhuangke Village beside the temple to Jiadao Village, and two nearby ones were also renamed Dafenglin Village and Xiaofenglin Village in memory of him.(https://www.daowen.com)
