The United Kingdom has borne different names throughout history, including Roman Britain,England and Great Britain, before ultimately becoming known as the United Kingdom.
British written history began in 55 B.C.when Julius Caesar’s Roman legions invaded the island. Before that time,British history is almost completely undocumented. But archaeological discoveries have shown that people were living in Britain as early as 3000 B.C..They were probably Iberians who moved to Britain from the Mediterranean area between 3000 B.C.and 2000 B.C..The ancient Stonehenge monument in southwest England demonstrates the engineering skills and astronomical knowledge of the early inhabitants.
