Abutie and Ayuetie

Long long time ago，the god Abai told people secretly，“There was going to be a flood on the ground.You'd better move into the big gourd quickly！”

But most people did not believe what he said，and only the brother Abutie and the sister Ayuetie did as he said.

A few days later，there came a flood indeed which lasted for 99 days.The earth was covered by water，and the sky was full of water too.All the people on the earth were drowned to death in the water.Only Abutie and Ayuetie survived by sitting in the big gourd，floating to wherever the water reached.

After the flood receded，the earth was exposed，but no one was in sight.Abutie and Ayuetie climbed out of the gourd to look for other humans.With each holding a long stick，Abutie went toward the east，and Ayuetie toward the west.They made an appointment to meet each other in the same place after three years.

Three years passed，the brother and the sister met again.The stick became a small one，but they did not find any other people.In order to carry on the family line，Abutie said to Ayuetie，“Sister，let's get married！”

“How can brother and sister get married？”Ayuetie asked her brother and disagreed，but there was no other way.So she said，“Brother，this event should be decided by Heaven's will.”

So，Ayuetie put a shell in the west of the river，and asked Abutie to hit the shell in the east.His stick just hit her shell.And when Abutie put a shell in the east of the river，her stick in the west hit his shell too，which implied that Heaven agreed to their marriage，so the brother and the sister got married.They had five daughters，but had no son.
