The Prince Sanxing
In ancient times，Jinsuo Island was covered with primeval forests and many monkeys.It was said that there was a big demon monkey among the monkeys，who was as tall as a human being，fierce in temperament，powerful in avatar，and capable of various changes.
The demon monkey often led hundreds of monkeys to harm people.And the people on the island hated him and were afraid of him，but they had no way to get rid of him.
The demon monkey had a magic weapon to protect himself—a bead with 10,000 changes.With this bead，he could turned into a monster with green faces and tusks，and then into a handsome and charming young man or a beauty.He also made a lot of magic.
One day，the demon monkey saw a beautiful girl washing clothes by the sea and had an ill intention.He took out the precious bead and blew a sigh of relief.Suddenly，a tornado blew up by the sea，dragging the girl into the monkey cave.The monkey forced the girl to be his wife.Soon，the girl became pregnant and gave birth to a baby with a monkey body and a human face.One day，while the demon monkey was asleep，the girl stole his bead and ran back to her home.Without the bead，the demon monkey was a common monkey just like other monkeys.When the demon monkey found out that he had lost the precious bead，he was furious and chased the girl as fast as he could.
The girl fled to her home and told her misfortune to her eldest brother Zhang Shige.Zhang Shige was anxious and angry to hear his younger sister's misfortune.He immediately dug a pit and buried the monkey king's bead in the ground.He swore to get rid of the demon monkey.
In the evening，the demon monkey chased him to the gate of Zhang Shige's house and called，“The baby's mother！Go back to the cave and feed the baby...”The girl heard the howl of the demon monkey and was scared to hide.Zhang Shige turned blue with anger.He thought：If the demon monkey hadn't lost the precious bead，he would have started to blow up the house.Now that he lost the magic，why should I be afraid of him？So Zhang Shige rushed out of the gate with the harpoon in his hand to fight the demon monkey，but the cunning demon monkey ran away.
In order to get rid of this vicious demon monkey on the island，Zhang Shige also called back his second and third younger brothers who were working in other places.The three brothers waited with the villagers for the demon monkey to arrive.They put two large hot stone piers outside of the gate.After the sun set，the demon monkey came with hundreds of monkeys.At the entrance to the gate，the demon monkey was ready to sit down and rest for a while.As soon as he sat down，he felt so hot that he could not help crying out，and all the hairs on his ass were burned off.The three brothers rushed out and took the harpoon to stab the monkey.“Catch the monkey！Catch the monkey！The monkey has lost his magic！Everyone，come and get him！”People surrounded the monkeys and beat them.Some monkeys were beaten to death，and some fled away.The demon monkey ran towards his cave vigorously.But Zhang Shige pursued him relentlessly.As soon as he caught up with the monkey，Zhang Shige threw his net at the demon monkey's head.The demon monkey was caught in the net，but he had great strength and tore the net with several tries.Zhang Shige was nimble and rushed to hug the demon monkey tightly.He twisted with him into a ball and rolled up and down the hillside together.At last they both fell off the cliff and died.Although Zhang Shige died，he still tightly held the demon monkey.People were very touched by seeing this.When the second and third brothers found that the eldest brother died so tragically，their hearts were filled with anger and hatred.They knelt down in front of the dead brother and swore，“We will not come back to home until we kill all the monkeys on Jinsuo Island.”Then，the two brothers led several strong young men to hunt down the bad monkeys on Jinsuo Island with weapons.
After the monkeys on Jinsuo Island had been driven away，the two brothers took the men to Chiwen Island and Yuji Island to hunt down the bad monkeys.They did not return to the village until they drove the monkeys to Jizu Mountain.Since then，the monkey disaster had been eliminated on the three islands of Erhai Lake and people had lived a peaceful life.
Later，in order to commemorate the three brothers，people named the eldest brother Zhang Shige as the Village God of Jinsuo Island，his honorific title as the Prince Sanxing；the second brother as the Village God of Chiwen Island，his honorific title as the Prince Zhangchao；and the third brother as the Village God of Yuji Island，his honorific title as the Prince Zhangbing.
