The Sun God Being a Village God
Long long time ago，there was a couple living in the Gedongbang Village under Canglang Peak of Cangshan Mountain.Every day，when the red sun came out，the husband Ah Guang carried a hoe and went to work in the field，while the wife was busy weaving cloth at home.They lived a happy life.
One day，the villagers suddenly heard wolves howling and dogs barking，and they saw a gust of wind.Ah Guang looked up and saw a monster as big as a cow which looked like a wolf and a dog.It ate the sun with a bite.In an instant，the sky was covered with black clouds and the sun disappeared！From then on，everywhere has been black and cold.The trees died，the crops stopped growing，and all kinds of snakes and tigers took advantage of the black out to do evil.Villagers were very painful.
Where was the sun？It was no use for people to pray to the Village God.Ah Guang was very sad to see villagers living in the dark.He was determined to find the sun.He discussed it with his wife，who said，“This is a matter of life and death for everyone.You don't have to worry about the family.Just go to find the sun.”
Ah Guang was anxious to find the sun so he crossed over the mountains without any rest.One day，he was tired and fell asleep under a tree.He had a dream，in which an old man with white beard said to him，“Do you want to find the sun？The sun is suffering！There is only a way to save the sun if you find your old ancestor Emperor Yan，but Emperor Yan lives in a golden palace on a high mountain in the east.You have to walk for as many days as a strand of hairs to get there！”With saying，the old man took out a plait and handed it to Ah Guang，“After you walk for a day，you take out a hair.When you take out all the hairs，you will arrive there.If you're afraid of the hardship，turn back now.”Ah Guang said，“I am even not afraid of death.I am determined to find the sun and save all the people in the Bazi.”The old man with white beard was moved and took out a pill for him，and said，“If you eat this pill，you won't be hungry any more.Go quickly！”Ah Guang woke up with a strand of hairs and a pill in his hand.He swallowed the pill hurriedly，kowtowed to the sky nine times and said，“Thank the immortal for rescuing me！”
Ah Guang kept walking without a rest，and he encountered endless hardships along the way.On the day when he drew out the last hair，he came to the foot of a high mountain，which rose straight into the clouds.And there was a glittering golden palace on the top of the mountain，just like the old man with white beard said.Regardless the risk of falling，Ah Guang climbed up the mountain with holding bushes and trees.After several falls，he finally came to the palace.He told the story of the sun being devoured by the strange wolf and his search for the sun to Emperor Yan.Emperor Yan said，“I know it now.You go back first and I will come soon！”Then he ordered a dragon without horns to carry Ah Guang home.
After a few days，people saw a god in the sky，in a blue coat and a long white dress，holding a glowing branch in his left hand，a huge bow in his right hand，a long sharp arrow in his bowstring，and a suspended vehicle pulled by six hornless dragons.He caught up with the wolf that was biting the sun，and shot the wolf away with an arrow.He also used the divine branch like a whip to drive away dark clouds.At last，the bright sun appeared again in the blue sky.
Since then，there has been no cloud and mist on Canglang Peak of Cangshan Mountain.People have reaped bumper harvests year after year and all lived and worked in peace and contentment.It is said that this is the happiness brought about by the Sun God Emperor Yan after his manifestation.Because of this，the local people built a temple to worship the Sun God as the Village God.After Ah Guang died，the villagers erected a statue of him next to the Sun God and also regarded him as the Village God.
