The Medicine God Meng You
There is a statue of a god named Meng You in the Village God Temple in Haidong of Dali，who is Meng Huo's second younger brother.And his third younger brother was Meng Ling.It was said that Meng Huo invented clothes，his third brother Meng Ling invented bamboo carving，and Meng You invented musical instruments and farming methods.Meng You was also a kind-hearted man who was proficient in medicine and curing patients.
Meng You practiced medicine and often went to and fro in Bonan（Yongping County）and Ye Yu（Dali City）.With superb medical skill and a warm heart，he had cured many patients.He charged the rich some money and the poor little or nothing.In order to save people，he often went deep into the sea and climbed over the cliff to collect the medicines.Therefore，he was very popular and was called the Living King of Medicine.
When Meng You came to Haidong，he met dozens of patients with neck sores，which could only be treated with small glossy ganoderma and medicinal camellia growing on the tops of Longquan Peak，Xueren Peak，and Yuju Peak of Cangshan Mountain.However，these two herbs grew on the summit of snowy mountains and were difficult to get.Meng You searched for seven days in the nineteen peaks and eighteen creeks，but he still could not find them.He felt anxious and sad but was determined to go to the summit of Longquan Peak to look for them.He went to the mountain and looked up at the steep cliff.There was no crack to push on and no branch to climb with.A stone stuck out from the top looked as if it were to fall down.The mountain was covered with snow.It was cold and slippery.How can one climb up the mountain？He walked half a circle around the mountainside，but still couldn't find a place to go.
Meng You heard that there used to be Phoenix Eye Cave and Dragon Eye Cave.He summoned up his courage and crawled up step by step.He looked up and saw the light shining out from the steep cliff.The rock sticking out of the cliff was like a phoenix head.Embedded in the steep rock，it was just like a phoenix eye.He managed to climb into the cave but didn't find any herb.When he looked down，he found the cliff was unfathomable.Although there were many scenic spots here，he did not want to enjoy them and climbed to Dragon Eyes Cave.Phoenix Eye Cave and Dragon Eye Cave stood between two cliffs respectively.Phoenix Eye Cave was in the south and was called Putuo Rock，just like a flying phoenix spreading its wings.Dragon Eye Cave was located in the north and was called Biyu Rock，which looked like a giant dragon shouting into the air.
Meng You climbed to Dragon Eye Cave，but still couldn't find any herbs，so he had to bypass the rock and continued to climb up.Suddenly there was a gust of wind，blowing the small rock rolling and the woods disorderly swinging.Then，a tiger with upturned eyes and white patterns on its forehead appeared from the summit of the mountain.With its tail extending，it shouted loudly and made the mountains and valleys echo.The tiger's two eyes shot a fierce light，and it came to eat him with its big mouth opening！Meng You had no fear and said to the tiger，“Tiger！If you want to eat me，you must first let me climb to the top of the mountain to find herbs and cure dozens of patients in Haidong.Otherwise，who will save them？”
Hearing this，the tiger closed its mouth，nodded its head and shook its tail three times，and turned over.The tiger drew closer to Meng You，and looked up the summit of the mountain.Mustering up his courage，Meng You mounted the tiger's back，and grabbed the fur on the tiger's neck with both hands.The tiger carried him to climb up to the top of Longquan Peak within a short time.
Meng You looked around and saw that the mountain was covered with ganoderma lucidum and medicinal camellia.He quickly pulled out a small bunch of flowers with roots and put it into a medicine bag.He bowed respectfully to the tiger and said，“Brother Tiger！Thank you very much.Please take me down！”The tiger drew closer again and let him ride.Meng You rode on the tiger's back and grabbed the fur of the tiger's rear buttock.The tiger jumped several times and carried Meng You down the mountain.Then the tiger nodded its head three times and disappeared like a gust of wind.
Meng You thought that this must be the manifestation of the god of the snowy mountain.He hurried back to Haidong and cured the patients.He also cured many people in other villages one after another.In order to commemorate his merit，people regarded him as the Medicine God.
