The Death of the Bai People's King
The king of the Bai people became the king in Dali.The heavenly god wanted to make him as the king for 270 years，so the god made him have 36 heads and a small stone drum.The god said to the king：
“Hide this treasure drum well in case of encountering any difficulties in the future.When you knock it a few times，I will be able to rescue you as soon as I hear it！”
The king took the little stone drum and carefully hid it in a secret place.One day，being idle in the palace，the king took out the small stone drum to play.He knocked it for a while and wanted to see what the heavenly god would do after hearing the drums.
Sitting in the heavenly palace，the heavenly god was shocked to hear the stone drum.The god hurried down to the earth to see what happened.It turned out that the king was playing with the stone drum.Being angry，the god went back to the heaven without saying a word.
One night，the king had a dream that there were three green Chinese leeks in his royal garden，which stood upright and poked through the zenith.When he woke up，he felt very strange.He did not tell the dream to his trusted minister，but only to his wife.He said to her：
“I had a strange dream last night.Please interpret it for me！”
His wife asked him what dream he had.He answered：
“I dreamed that there was a green Chinese leek that was standing upright and poking through the zenith.”His wife thought for a second and said：
“When the Chinese leek go up into the sky，it can sprout again after being cut off.”
Hearing this，the king felt very unlucky and very sad.He thought to himself：
“If this is the case，my country will be in danger.”
Being anxious，the king tossed and turned in bed and was unable to go to sleep.After thinking for a while，he shouted loudly：
“Who dares to usurp my throne？It can only happen when the sun and the moon rise from the west！”
What he said happened to be heard by Lan Zhonglin，who lived next door.At night，he led his troops to climb from the foot of Cangshan Mountain to the top of the mountain with the flag of sun and moon.He also sent for 3,000 sheep，each with two strands of burning incense tied to its horns.The fragrant fire on the horns of sheep lit up the west and lit up the big flag as if the sun were rising from the foot of Cangshan Mountain.
When the king woke up and saw a fiery red patch in the slope of Cangshan Mountain，he thought his oath was fulfilled，and he wrongly regarded the 3,000 sheep sent by Lan Zhonglin as a large soldier team.So he shouted in panic：
“My God，the sun and the moon are rising from the west.Someone has really come to usurp my throne.”
So，the king escaped from the Straw Hat Street in a panic.
Lan Zhonglin led the troops and chased him.
The officers and soldiers were chasing so closely that the king could not escape and had to hide under the stone bridge near Zhuanyao Village in the south of Dali.Lan Zhonglin rode on a large mule and kept chasing.As soon as the mule reached the stone bridge，it suddenly raised its head high and stopped.And they heard a crow kept shouting at the top of the big green tree：“The king，the king！”The cry became louder and louder.
Lan Zhonglin jumped down from the mule's back and led the officers and soldiers in a search near the stone bridge，but they didn't see the king.Just as Lan Zhonglin was about to turn around and jump on the mule's back，he heard a starling saying word for word on a tree with eggplant-colored flowers by the roadside：“The king is hiding under the bridge！The king is hiding under the bridge！”Lan Zhonglin headed straight towards the bridge and caught the king at once.
Being very angry，the king pointed to the mule standing motionlessly on the bridge and said mercilessly：
“You evil beast，let you barren and have no offspring！”He turned around and pointed to the crow at the top of the big green tree and scolded it：
“You evil crow，you are so talkative：I curse you to bring up your next generation in a hard way.”
Then，pointing to the starling on the head of the branch，he said：
“Gossip starling，you take my life way.Even if I die，Ican't let you live a long life.You won't live a hundred days this year.When the White Dew Day comes，you will die！”
The king's curses about the mule，the crow and the starling were fulfilled.Later，the mule can not give birth，and the mule's mother was a horse and father was a donkey.As for the crow，until now，about 30 days after the old crows hatch young crows，the babies still lie in the nests to shed their hair，unable to move at all.While the wings of the little crows become strong，they have to eat their mothers.And the starling can only live for 100 days.Every year，when the White Dew Day comes，the person who raises the starling must keep the starling in the room，or it will die in the cage.
After the king was captured，Lan Zhonglin sentenced him to death，but the executioner could not kill the king：Each time he chopped off the king's head，a new head grew up again.The king's head was cut for 99 times in a row and the head grew up for 99 times，which frightened Lan Zhonglin.He sent someone to bring the queen.Lan Zhonglin asked her for the reason.The wife was very sad to see her husband suffer from that kind of cruel beheading over and over again.She thought to herself：My husband is going to die.I'd better tell them the way so as to save my husband from being tortured.She then tearfully said to Lan Zhonglin：
“It is not difficult for you to kill my husband.In our royal garden，there is a green grass.As long as you cut off that plant，my husband will die！”
Lan Zhonglin found the green grass in the king's royal garden，and he did as the queen said.And this time，the king's head was really cut off.From then on，Lan Zhonglin ruled Dali.
