Limited Offering School and Highly Concentrated Geographic Locations

According to data provided by Chinese Teachers’Association of Victoria(CLTAV)and from Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority(VCAA),only 3 out of 150 VCE schools offered LCS between 2017 and 2019,and the number increased to 27 for the 2020 enrolment.However,97 schools offer VCE Chinese SL in 2020,over 3 folds of that of offering LCS.The huge numeric difference may suggest that the majority VCE school either do not have sufficient recourse or do not have the willingness to offer LCS on top of the existing VCE Chinese SL,especially when LCS and SL are catering similar group of student cohort—second language learners.

At the same time, all schools offering LCS are either located in,or very close to the Melbourne metropolitan area, while schools offering SL have wider postcode differences. The geographic concentration of the LCSoffering schools may further suggest the insufficient recourses to introduce the new Chinese studies.
