5.4.5 Outdated preservation technologies

The historic personalities’ residences in Jinan are mostly ordinary residential buildings.They have been affected by environmental changes such as temperature and humidity for many years, and the building structure is often relatively fragile.meanwhile, the surrounding construction, traffic, air pollution and other man-made threats caused serious damage to these notable residences.Therefore, it is the basis of preventive preservation for these houses to monitor the foundation stability, component quality, the temperature, humidity, noise, pollutant content of the environment, and to assess the disaster risks based on the analysis of the monitoring data.The application of high-tech methods such as real-time monitoring systems is still rare in the protection process of these former residences in Jinan (Fig.5-24).
