Medical and health institutions of all levels and types, disease prevention and control institutions, inspection and quarantine institutions, blood collection and supply institutions and village doctors shall promptly carry out laboratory microscopic examination or RDT test of malaria parasite in the laboratory for feverish patients with a history of residence abroad, patients with suspected malaria symptoms and patients with fever of unknown origin (Fill in Table 5-1). Medical institutions that do not have the conditions for laboratory malaria parasite testing should immediately refer the above-mentioned patients to the nearest qualified medical institutions for testing. The specific species of parasites should be identified in the cases with positive results of microscopic examination. In addition, for the cases with positive results of RDT it should at least be clear whether they are infected with Plasmodium falciparum. For suspected malaria, clinically diagnosed and confirmed malaria cases, filter paper blood samples or anticoagulant blood samples should be made at the same time for cryopreservation and reference.
1.2 Case report
Once suspected, clinically diagnosed and confirmed cases of malaria are found in medical institutions of all levels and types, disease prevention and control institutions, inspection and quarantine institutions, blood collection and supply institutions and by village doctors, it shall be reported directly through the disease surveillance information report and management system within 24 hours. For institutions that do not have the conditions for direct network reporting it should be directly reported by the nearest one within 24 hours after diagnosis. In areas (or countries) that do not have the disease surveillance information reporting management system, cases should be reported to epidemic management agencies within 24 hours in a safe and reliable manner.
