Qu Yuan said：“Should I be pure-hearted，simple，and loyal or only busy with welcoming visitors and seeing them off and currying favor with them so as to get out of trouble？Should I only reclaim wasteland，weed out weeds and toil in the farmland，or associate with bigwigs so as to fish for fame and credit？Should I call a spade to cause disaster or yield to common customs and desire wealth and honor greatly so as to drag out an ignoble existence？Should I be a big frog in a small pond and keep an honest personalintegrity or curry favor with others and force smiles so as to serve that woman？Should I be whitehanded and upright so as to keep sinless or tactful，busy with going to vulgar and serving the time？Should I act like a swift horse with a great ambition or like a drifting wild duck going with the stream so as to be worldly wise and make myself safe？Should I keep pace with fine horse or follow the footmarks of bad horses？Should I fly wing to wing with swans or fight for food with chickens and ducks on the ground？As for as the cases mentioned above，which one is lucky or which one is ill-lucky？Which one should be abandoned or which one should be followed？The manners and morals of the time are muddy and confused：cicada wings are considered heavy but a thousand pounds are considered light；big bells are destroyed and abandoned but tile cauldrons and pottery pots are thundery；base persons are arrogant and bullying but wise men are unknown to public.Alas，keep quiet！Who knows my clean and honest heart？”
