6.2 THE PLANNING OF ITINERARIES

6.2 THE PLANNING OF ITINERARIES

Careful planning is indispensable to an effective itinerary. Before starting to write an itinerary, the drafter should organize all the information into recognizable parts, which will enable the reader to learn about the four elements of an itinerary immediately. An itinerary customarily comprises three parts:

The Heading. The heading part usually outlines the purpose of the itinerary. If it is one predominantly about traveling, the heading may tell what kinds of wonderful journeys people may have.It can also be something about a travel agency,a hotel,or a site of interest which promises people wonderful traveling experience. If it is one about conference,it generally tells people about the subject of the conference.

The Drafter. The Drafter of an itinerary refers to the person or the organization that is responsible for the formulation of it.More often than not,the date on which the itinerary is released is to be put immediately below the drafter.Sometimes, the drafter of an itinerary can be omitted when it is a personal itinerary or when the organization which has prepared can be inferred either from the heading or from the body part of it.(https://www.daowen.com)

The Body. The body part of an itinerary may vary from one to another. If it is in the form of a table, the information will be organized in terms of the four elements of time, places, persons, and events. If it is presented in the form of a text, the information will be organized according to the division of time,or different phases of the whole event. In itineraries about a conference, the body part of different phases of a conference may take all the parts of an agenda, namely the heading, the date, the time, the venue, and lists of topics to be discussed. It may also take the parts of a schedule:activity, start time, and completion.

After the organization of different sorts of information into different parts, the drafter should then go on to plan about the form the itinerary is going to take.Whatever form, the itinerary should meet its purpose in directing people about what is to happen at given time in future.

The general plan for an instructive itinerary is as follows. The heading outlines its purpose, the drafter indicates the person responsible for the organization of a series of events, and the body details the schedule for the series of events.
