13.1.2.6 Packing list装箱单
A packing list is a supplement to the commercial invoice, which shows a detailed list of the goods and their packing, such as the quantity, package, weight and measurement. It is needed by the customs of the importing country for ascertaining the contents and quantity, etc.of a shipment and determining the applicable tariff rate. The importer also needs it for checking the goods on arrival against the contract.Should any non-conformity to the contract occur, the packing list constitutes one of the documents supporting a claim. It also provides information that is necessary to the carrier for moving the cargo and loading the container or vessel in the proper way.
The format is similar to that of a commercial invoice except that the unit price and the total amount are not listed.Listed items include the name, quantity, packages, gross weight, net weight and measurement of the commodity. But a signature is optional, depending on the requirement of the importing country.Several originals and copies are also needed for different purposes. And in most cases, the packing list and the invoice bear the same date.Figure13-7 is a sample packing list.
