Payanleng was the widely known Hero of Bulang Ethnic Group and the ancestor of Pu people who planted tea.It was said that Payanleng was tall, burly, brave and resourceful.He was praised by the Dai king and recruited as the seventh son-in-law, intending to pass the throne to him, but he was willing to return to his hometown, Mount Bulang, and lead the villagers to develop and expand his tribe.After Payanleng died, he appeared in the sky and left a will to his descendants, saying,“if there is war, I will protect you away from wars.”“If I leave you cattle and horses, they may die in disasters; if I leave you gold and silver treasures, they will be spent all one day; for this reason,I will only leave you tea trees for future generations, which are inexhaustible.”.The“Ancestor Song”sung by the descendants of the Bulang Ethnic Group also mentions the contribution of Payanleng to tea planting:“Payanleng is our hero, he is our ancestor, and he left us a bamboo shed and tea tree, which is the resources for later generations to make use of.”
