1.2 Our work
In this paper,we first build a Driving force-Pressures-States-Impacts-Responses(DPSIR)model to evaluate the sustainability. In the model,we select the important factors acknowledged in the United Nations Conference as evaluation factors for each state of the model, and use AHP method to make quantitative evaluations of DPSIR.
To define the boundary between sustainable development and unsustainable development,we first select 10 countries in the world acknowledged as the most sustainable development and 10 countries, the least sustainable development, then use our model to get the maximum and the minimum of sustainable development with the median value as the boundary between sustainable development and unsustainable development. Then,we build a method to assess the impact of each indicator on the sustainable development of the country.
Then,we use time series to analyze the existing conditions and make predictions on Haiti's development after 20 years.Afterwards, against the three main indicators of Economy,Community vulnerability,Local environmental quality,we develop a 20-year sustainability plan and an implementation roadmap.
Finally,we take the implementation of new policies and the multiple natural disasters in Haiti into consideration.Meanwhile,we modify the model and evaluate the predicted results.
We also conduct a sensitivity analysis of factors that may affect our results, including the selection of indicators and the weights of indicators, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of our model.
