4.1.3 Translation Hypotheses
Some linguists have proposed hypotheses on translation.Baker(1993:243)hypothesized the translation universals of explicitation, simplification, and normalization.Explicitation assumes translations build the extensive background information into the target language. In thisway, translationswill present a feature of expansion.Simplification can be observed lexically and syntactically. The lexical density is an im portant parameter to testify simplification.Normalization can be validated by observing whether there is the exaggeration of typical patterns in translations.(https://www.daowen.com)
Laviosa(1998:8)set two hypotheses:The translational com ponent has the lower lexical density and them ean sentence length;the translational component has a higher proportion of high frequency words. That is,there is less lexical variation in the translated language, meanwhile the syntactic features tend to be less prominent. All the hypotheses wait to be confirmed by further research.
