4.2.1 Analysis of Overall Statistics in Word list
W ord list is firstly observed because the statistics given by wordlist exhibit the general features of the whole texts. The standardized type/token ratio, word length, sentence length will be com pared between OETT and TETT.All the statistics are collected in Table 4.2.
Table 4.2 Statistics Displayed in Word list

STTR is a persuasive criterion to observe vocabulary variety.By default,it computes every 1,000 words as Wordlist goes through each text file.As a whole,TETT has a lower STTR than OETT(43.70&44.75),which means less distinctwords are used in TETT.
Moreover, the average word length of TETT is shorter than OETT(4.71&4.84).The amount of words of different length is further calculated. The results and their standardized occurrences per thousand words are shown in Table 4.3 and Figure 4.1.Among all the texts TETT is themost significant in the short words use and the least significant in the long words use.To be specific, the 1-6 letter words accumulate 76.05%in OETT but77.32%in TETT;the 7-12 letter words account for 23.11%in OETT but only 21.74%in TETT.The log-likelihood value 25.05 indicates there is a significant difference in the 7-12 letter word use between OETT and TETT with a probabilily less than one in a million. The words with over 13 letters are negligible for a strikingly small proportion. As for ANC,the 1-6 letter wordsmake up 75.60%,the 7-12 letter words 23.53%,with which OETT ism ore sem blable.

The lower STTR and shorter words indicate TETT tends to use less and easier words in translation, confirming the translation hypothesis of simplification.
According to Table 4.2,the average sentence length of TETT is longer than OETT(20.06&19.64).Sentences are slightly expanded in TETT,which can preliminarily testify the hypothesis of explicitation.
