Annex 1:任务区一般安全提示

VEHICLE SECURITY

*All staff are advised to drive safely and remember that consumption of alcohol and driving do not go together;

*When driving always have windows closed and doors locked;

*Never allow hitchhikers into your vehicle;

*Always park vehicles with the windows up,doors locked,in a secure and well lit area;

*When parking your vehicle,always remove the radio antenna from the vehicle’s roof and secure it inside—if fitted with a magnet mounted antenna;

*Do not leave any personal effects or other apparently attractive items(or boxes)in the vehicle(At any time,not even when unloading your shopping).

WHEN MEET A PROTEST OR DEMONSTRATIONS

*If you see a demonstration or roadblock,avoid the area if at all possible;

*Do not try to run any roadblock,as the demonstrators may perceive it as a hostile action;

*Avoid public gatherings and maintain a low profile in public;

*Keep official travel to an absolute minimum in tense areas(Security Advisories broadcasted on LOTUS Notes identify such areas);

*Keep your unofficial movements to an absolute minimum at all times;

*Monitor mission area's emergency channel for instructions and guidelines.

*VHF Radio Channel 4 and HF Channel 1 are monitored 24/7 by the UNMIL Security Section Radio Room(ext.4237 &4243)and can be used in emergencies-CALL SIGN“ZULU BASE”;

GENERAL SECURITY

*Travel in pairs,walk in areas with lighting or areas with lots of public foot traffic.Avoid dark and isolated areas and avoid,if possible,all travel after dark;

*Maintain a low profile,do not openly display excessive jewelry,cash,passports,cell phones,laptop bags,walkmans,etc;

*Carry handbags/backpacks in a secure manner to prevent grab-and-run type thefts;

*Avoid crowded areas such as open street markets as you can become a prime target for petty street crime;

*Always be alert and pay attention to your surroundings;

*When in your accommodation keep doors and windows closed and locked,even bedroom doors when sleeping;

*Carry your radio AT ALL TIMES and know how to use it in order to call for assistance.Equipment,instructions and call signs are given by the Communications and IT Section;

*Know your surroundings,police stations,operating hours of stores/establishments that are safe to call for assistance;

*Respect the curfew that is a pro-active security measure for you own personal security.Timings are 2400-0500hrs every day for ALL OFF-DUTY UN Personnel;

*Always monitor your Lotus Notes,your radio and other communication on security and abide by security instruction/information given and make sure that there is a functioning handheld radio in your household

OFFICE SECURITY

The following suggestions may help to decrease the chance of theft:

*Do not tempt thieves by leaving valuables or money unsecured;

*If sharing an office or group of offices,stagger lunch hours and coffee breaks so that the office is occupied at all times during working hours;

*If the office must be left vacant,lock the door;

*Arrange desks so that persons entering the office area may be observed;

*Keep valuables and official documents under lock and key;

*Confirm work to be done or property to be removed by maintenance,outside service personnel or vendors;and

*Do not hide keys to office furniture under flowerpots,calendars,etc.Thieves know all the hiding places.Do not label keys except by code.
