Weixian pears enjoy a long history. According to relevant records in Arts for the People,the ancient agricultural monograph,it could be concluded that people started planting pears at least 1,400 years ago,but the earliest written records about Weixian pears were in the Song Dynasty. It seems that Weixian pears were very famous at that time and should be considered a local specialty. By the Qing Dynasty,Weixian pears became the imperial tribute,gaining greater fame. Mao Tianqi,magistrate of Wei County in Qing Dynasty had written “wind rustles pear leaves,autumn light is all over the field.” After 1949,especially the reform and opening up,Wei County constantly adjusted its industrial structure,vigorously developed traditional local industry with special characteristics,and constantly expanded the pear planting area.
