◎Step on Chenghai Tower

◎Step on Chenghai Tower

Prince Yong (The Qing Dynasty)

Note: This poem was written by Prince Yong at Old Dragon's Head,Qinhuangdao in 1699, when he was 22 years old.He went to the northeast to worship his ancestors on behalf of his father, Emperor Kangxi, and ascended Chenghai Tower when passing by Shanhaiguan (Shanhai Pass).

This poem can be interpreted as follows: Had someone ever seen or visited the blessed land inhabited by immortals where there were ultra-luxury aquatic palaces and mountains, I can tell that we could definitely reach the ferry where the legendary giant bird emerged and the mermaid's chamber.

I didn't believe in the absurd Taoist priest Zhang Rong's talking about the elixir that makes a person into an immortal until I ascended the Chenghai Tower. The vast sea converted me, and I came to know there was no exaggeration in his words.
