5.1.3 Insulation Suit
Insulation suit are made of clothing made of insulating materials and are a personal safety protection device that protects live workers from electric shock when they come into contact with live parts.
1.Basic Structure and Function of Insulation Suit
(1)Basic structure
①The insulation suit is made of ERV resin material or synthetic rubber,which has the function of preventing mechanical abrasion,chemical corrosion and ozone.The insulation suit made of ERV resin material will be introduced,as shown in Fig.5-8.

②The structure of the insulating cloth is divided into sleeves,cuffs,belts,body and buttons.
③The structure of the insulating pants is divided into a belt and a waist elastic band.
(2)Basic functions of insulation suit for live working Insulating the human body in addition to the head,hands and feet is achieved to protect the operators of live working from electric shock when they are in contact with the electrified body.
2.Classification and Technical Specifications of Insulation Suit
(1)Classification
The complete set of insulation suit includes insulating cloth and insulating pants,of which the insulating cloth is divided into ordinary insulating tops,mesh insulating tops and insulating shawls.
(2)Technical specifications
①The models of insulating cloth and insulating pants are divided into small,medium,large and extra large models.
②The surface of the insulation suit shall be flat,uniform and smooth,without small holes,local bulges,inclusions of foreign matter,creases,voids,etc.,and the joint part shall be made in a seamless manner.
③The average tensile strength of the surface should not be less than 9MPa,and the minimum value should be no less than 90%of the average value.
④The average surface mechanical anti-piercing force should be no less than 15N,and the minimum value should be no less than 90%of the average value.
⑤The average value of the surface tearing breaking force should be no less than 150N,and the minimum value should be no less than 90%of the average value.
⑥Electrical performance should meet the requirements of Table 5-5.

3.Inspection Items of Insulation Suit
Insulation suit must be inspected before use,including visual inspection,focusing on the process and molding inspection.The inner and outer surfaces should be visually inspected.The surface should be flat,uniform and smooth,and free of small holes,local bulges,inclusions,creases,voids,etc.The joint part should be made in a seamless manner;mark inspection;and packaging inspection.(https://www.daowen.com)
4.Usage of Insulation Suit
(1)Visual inspection of the inner and outer surfaces of the insulation suit before each use.
(2)It is forbidden to use the insulation suit when it has defects that may affect the safety performance,and the insulation suit should be tested.
(3)Avoid being scratched by sharp objects or sharp objects.Wearing method of insulation suit is shown in Fig.5-9.
5.Precautions for Storage of Insulation Suit
(1)The insulation suit cannot be folded,because crease will cause the rubber to be oxidized,reducing the insulation performance.
(2)Insulation suits should be hung one by one on a special stainless steel metal frame in a dry,well-ventilated live working tool warehouse,as shown in Fig.5-10.

(3)Insulation suits are prohibited from being stored near steam pipes,radiators or other artificial heat sources;do not store in direct sunlight;in particular,avoid touching sharp objects directly,causing punctures or scratches.
(4)It is prohibited to contact the insulation suit with oil,acid,alkali or other harmful substances,and it shall be kept more than 1m away from the heat source.The storage environment temperature should be within 10-21°C.
(5)In case that the insulation suit are dirty,it is necessary to wash with soap and water,and apply talcum powder after thorough drying.In case that a mixture of tar and paint adheres to the clothing,it is necessary to wipe it off with suitable solvent.
(6)In case that the insulation suit is wet during use or dried thoroughly after washing,the drying temperature shall not exceed 65°C.
6.Test Items of Insulation Suit
The conventional test items of conventional insulation suit are as follows.
(1)Appearance inspection includes process and molding inspection,marking inspection,and packaging inspection.
(2)The mechanical test includes tensile strength and elongation test,mechanical puncture resistance test,and surface tear resistance test.
(3)The preventive test items for the insulation suit include mark inspection,AC withstand voltage test or DC withstand voltage test,and the test period is once every six months.The preventive test of insulation suit is shown in Fig.5-11.
