1.Basic Structure and Function of Insulating Shoes(Boots)
(1)Basic structure
The basic insulating shoes(boots)are composed of soles,upper,heel,boot leg,etc.Insulating shoes(boots)are shown in Fig.5-12.

(2)Basic function
①Insulating shoes(boots)are auxiliary safety tools used during live working on distribution lines.
②The insulating shoes(boots)for live working are electrically assisted and insulating during live working The insulating shoes(boots)are made of synthetic rubber or natural rubber,mainly protecting the feet of live working operators from electrical insulation.The insulating shoes(boots)require good electrical performance and good insulation properties.At present,the maximum insulation level is up to 2,that is,the shoes(boots)can be used at 10kV and below.
2.Classification and Technical Specifications of Insulating Shoes(Boots)for Live Working
(1)Classification
①According to the system voltage,it can be divided into 3～10kV(power frequency)insulating shoes(boots)and insulating shoes(boots)below 0.4kV.
②According to material,it can be divided into cloth insulating shoes,leather insulating shoes(boots),and rubber insulating shoes(boots).
(2)Technical specifications
①Insulating shoes(boots)should be flat,and the outsole should have a non-slip pattern.
②Insulating shoes(boots)can only be used as an auxiliary safety device within the specified range.
3.Inspection of Insulating Shoes(Boots)for Live Working(https://www.daowen.com)
Before use,the insulating shoes(boots)must be inspected,including the following.
(1)Appearance inspection,the inner and outer surfaces of the insulating shoes(boots)should be flat,without surface defects such as cracks and holes.
(2)In case that one of the pair of insulating shoes(boots)may not be safe,the shoes cannot be used and should be returned for testing.
(3)For the mark inspection,the test certificate shall be complete and within the validity period.
4.Usage of Insulating Shoes(Boots)for Live Working
(1)Wear correctly.Insulating shoes(boots)should be placed before entering the insulating stand or the insulation bucket.After wearing,it is not allowed to walk and step on the ground or other sharp objects.
(2)The model of the insulating shoes(boots)should be adapted to the operator's foot code and should not be too large or too small.
(3)Insulating shoes(boots)shall not be used in case that the shoes are damaged,the soles of the soles are flattened,and the outer soles are exposed to the insulation layer or the preventive inspection is unqualified.
(4)In case that the insulating shoes(boots)are wet during use or dried thoroughly after washing,the drying temperature shall not exceed 65°C.
5.Precautions for Storage of Insulating Shoes(Boots)for Live Working
(1)The storage place should be dry and ventilated.When it is stacked,it should be more than 20cm away from the ground and the wall.Leave all heating elements more than 1m.It is strictly forbidden to store with oil,acid,alkali or other corrosive materials.
(2)In case that the shoes are dirty,it is necessary to wash with soap and water,and apply talcum powder after thorough drying.In case that a mixture of tar and paint adheres to the shoes,it is necessary to wipe it off with suitable solvent.
6.Test for Insulating Shoes(Boots)for Live Working
(1)Mechanical performance test.Including tensile strength and elongation at break test,wear resistance test,Shore A hardness test,strip and upper adhesion strength test,upper and sole peel test,folding performance test.
(2)Electrical test.Including AC verification voltage test and leakage current test.
(3)The preventive inspection period for various insulating shoes(boots)should not exceed 6 months.
