7.2.5 Insulated Conductor Stripper
1.Structure and Function of Insulated Conductor Stripper
Insulated conductor stripper,also known as insulated conductor stripping plier or conductor stripping plier,is mainly used to strip the insulation layer of insulated conductors,and is currently mainly used for stripping the insulating layer of 10kV insulated wires and high-voltage cables.Its manufacturers are from United States,Japan,Italy,China and other countries,and it is with various shapes and structures.The structure of domestic BXQ-Z-40A rotary stripper consists of a fixed knob,a feed knob,a fixed head,a cylindrical cutter,a sliding head and a handle,as shown in Fig.7-29.The blade is made of alloy steel,and is sharp and durable.The cutter head can be disassembled and ground.The peeling thickness has feed scale.The operation is intuitive and convenient.As shown in Fig.7-30,it is a BXQ-Z-40Arotary stripper.

2.Basic Types and Performance Parameters of Insulated Wire Strippers
Insulated wire strippers can be divided into manual and electric types according to the operation mode,and can be divided into American,Japanese,Italian,joint venture and domestic made types according to the manufacturer's standard.
The following describes the specifications and performance parameters of several common insulated conductor strippers,as shown in Table 7-5.

3.Inspection of Insulating Conductor Stripper Before Use
(1)Before use,select the corresponding stripper according to the diameter of the conductor.Never use it beyond the scope to avoid damage to the blade.(https://www.daowen.com)
(2)The cylinder cutter will inevitably be blunt if it is used for a long time.It shall be polished with oilstone in time to ensure the quality of stripping and cutting.
(3)Before use,check whether the structure of each part of the stripper is good,whether the knob is flexible and reliable,and whether there is any slip failure.
4.Usage of Insulating Conductor Stripper
The application method of domestic BXQ-Z-40Astripper is as follows.
(1)According to the structural schematic diagram of BXQ-Z-40A,loosen the fixing knob,pull open the slide plier head,clamp the stripping part of the wire,and then tighten and fix the knob.
(2)Tighten the knob counterclockwise while observing the scale feed(1mm per grid),and stop the feed until an appropriate depth is reached.
(3)Tighten the stripper.The feeding direction is from right to left,and when it is fast,push slightly to the right to make the stripper tilt to the left.
(4)When turning to a predetermined length,cancel the leftward push to turn the stripper in-situ,and the chippings will break off on their own.
(5)Turn the knob clockwise to retract the cylinder cutter(scale returns to 0),then loosen the fixing knob,pull open the slide head,take out the conductor and finish stripping.
(6)When the stripper is used,the blade feeding depth shall be appropriate.Under normal circumstances,the 0.5~1mm thick insulating layer shall be reserved along the feeding depth,so as to prevent from damaging the cutting edge of the conductor and the cylinder notch resulted from the excessive feeding depth.

5.Precautions for Storage of Insulated Conductor Stripper
The insulated conductor stripping plier shall be kept in a dry and well-ventilated tools and instruments warehouse,stored in a special tools and instruments box and placed at the fixed point of the shelf.The storage of BXQ-Z-40Astripper is as shown in Fig.7-32.

6.Preventive Test of Insulated Conductor Stripper
The preventive test of insulated conductor stripper includes the visual examination and the power frequency withstand voltage test of insulation part,and the test cycle is 1 year.
