Ling Gu and Long Lang
Once upon a time，there lived an old shepherd in a fishing village near Erhai Lake.The old shepherd had a daughter named Ling Gu，who was 19 years old with beautiful look，melodious voice and good heart.On the 15th of the first month of that year，Ling Gu was singing an elegant Bai melody while mending a fishing net on the seashore.At this moment，there came a sanxian（a kind of Bai people's musical instrument with three strings）to score with her.After a while，a handsome Bai boy came up from the beach.He was playing the sanxian as he walked towards Ling Gu.Ling Gu was filled with joy to see the young man playing the sanxian.The young man slowly sat on the reef with Ling Gu，one playing the sanxian and the other singing.On the moonlight，a pair of shadows came into the sea until it was still late at night，and the two reluctantly dispersed.Ever since，on every moonlit night，this young man went to the seaside to meet with Ling Gu.They poured out their love for each other and vowed to live together forever and became husband and wife.However，their love was envied by the toad demon，who often eavesdropped their talks and played tricks in the dark.
In the following summer，it was very hot.Ling Gu went to Erhai Lake to take a bath.After the bath，she went ashore.She picked up her white undershirt and was startled to see a snake sticking to her deep red velvet collar jacket.The snake started to talk and asked Ling Gu to be her wife.Otherwise she would not be allowed to wear clothes.Ling Gu could not go home being naked.She had to agree to the snake's request.Ling Gu put on her clothes and hurried back home to tell her parents about it.Her parents had to hide her in a house.After a while，the snake came to Ling Gu's house.There were six or seven doors in Ling Gu's house，but the snake went straight to the door where Ling Gu was hiding.There were three members in the family，but Ling Gu was the one the snake was looking for.The snake climbed to Ling Gu's door.After he failed to go into the room with his head，he curled up into a ball to smash the door.He smashed the door to creak time and time again.Ling Gu was anxious and asked him through the door，“Are you a human or a ghost？Answer me quickly！”
“I am neither a human nor a ghost.I am the prince of the dragon king of Erhai Lake.”
“I have no grievance or enmity with you.Why are you chasing me？”
“Do you still remember the pledge of eternal love by Erhai Lake？Do you still remember the night of 15th of the first month last year，I—Long Lang（the son of dragon king）met with you the first time？”
“He is a guy，not a snake！”
It turned out that Long Lang could only transfer into a snake in daylight and would not become a human until night.Ling Gu's parents heard what they said and had to let the girl follow the snake.
Long Lang led Ling Gu to Erhai Lake.When he swung his tail，the sea water was moved aside，and Ling Gu went straight into the resplendent dragon palace of Erhai Lake.Ling Gu and Long Lang were deeply attached to each other and had two children after their marriage.Three years later，Ling Gu told Long Lang that she was going home to visit her parents.Then Long Lang sent her out of the sea.Before her leaving，Long Lang told her to arrive at the seaside before dawn on the 15th of the first month，and he would be there waiting for Ling Gu and their sons to come back to the dragon palace.Ling Gu agreed and took the two children back home.It happened that their conversation was overheard by the hateful toad demon.On the night of the 15th of the first month，the toad demon caught some sleep-inducing insects to put them to Ling Gu，who fell groggy and fell asleep.Then the toad demon picked up a pebble and waited for Long Lang at the seaside.
When the full moon rose from the east on the night，Long Lang came to the surface of the sea to wait for Ling Gu.He waited and waited until the full moon came down to the top of Cangshan Mountain but Ling Gu did not appear.He was so worried that he leaned his head out of the water to see what had happened.Suddenly，he was struck by the toad demon and was hit on the head.The dragon's blood turned the sea red，and he was killed.
The following morning，Ling Gu woke up and hurried to the seaside with the children.She saw the blood billowing but could not see her husband，so she could not enter the dragon palace.She cried and cried sadly，“Long Lang！Long Lang！”The two children also let out cries.
It is said that when it is late at night on the 15th of the first month，on the bank of Erhai Lake，you can also see vaguely the shadow of Ling Gu and the children，and hear Ling Gu's whine：“Long Lang！Long Lang！”
