CHAPTER 8
Recontextualizing Sydney School Genre-Based Pedagogy in the Discipline
This chapter discusses the centrality of writing to disciplinary learning and describes how the Sydney School Genre-Based Pedagogy is recontextualized for implementation in a unit of study on scientists and their careers to help students learn to write biographies of famous scientists or science career reports in the process of developing an understanding of the nature of science. It exemplifies how grammar can be taught in a contextual yet playful way that promotes language learning and writing development at the same time.
