Ode to Orange

This poem is considered as one of the works written in Qu Yuands early days.It described the image and characters of orange tree with personification，which can be considered as the symbol of his personality and characters.

Essence of heaven and earth fostered orange trees.

By nature they're used to the water and soil in here.

Their inborn features could never change.

They will live in the south Chu State forever.

Deep-rooted their nature cannot be changed.

They're determined not to break their words.

The leaves are fresh with White flowers.

White and pure they are lovely indeed.

There are thorns among their leaves.

But the fruit is highly valuable anyway.

Green and yellow colors contrast finely with each other.

They are extremely gorgeous really like the rosy clouds.

It is pure outside and it is white inside.

If take a big way they'll never change.

Appearance is sweet and manner is natural and unrestrained.

Quality is extraordinarily refined and is common in nothing.

I praise you-the orange trees in south China.

You live alone in the world never willing to move.

Your ideal is noble and makes people very happy.

You are deeply rooted it is too hard for you to move.

You're open-minded and unselfishness with no desire.

Aloof and detached you keep far away from the dirty world.

You rise above common herd unyielding affairs of human life.

You hold your pure heart acting cautiously.

You've never committed any crimes at all.

You possess a noble quality of unselfishness.

You can be combined with heaven and earth.

I am willing to make friends with you.

It's in cold time with flowers withered.

By nature you are kind and strict.

Hard and straight，texture is clear.

Even though you're young and naïve，

You can still be an excellent teacher.

Your fine quality can be compared with that of Boyi.

I plant orange to express my hope to learn from you.
