盖瑞·布科夫尼克，1947年出生于美国俄亥俄州克里夫兰，受教育于克里夫兰艺术学院，从1974开始一直在旧金山生活和创作。他绘制的令人赏心悦目的花卉和其他植物形象以及烹饪食物图像，在纸上精确再现了这些植物和食材的大自然原始本色和生命力，给予它们再次的惊鸿再现和绚丽绽放。
盖瑞·布科夫尼克已经出版的书籍包括《花-盖瑞·布科夫尼克水彩画和单版画》（1990年）；《盖瑞·布科夫尼克水彩画》（2005年由哈德森希尔斯出版社出版）；“食品生活，盖瑞·布科夫尼克水彩展项目日历”（2011年）；《盖瑞·布科夫尼克水彩画》（2011年）；《盖瑞·布科夫尼克风景画》（2012年）。

ABOUT SUPERVISORS
Gary Bukovnik was born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA in 1947 and educated in Cleveland Institute of Arts.Since 1974, he has been living and working in San Francisco, USA.He is an excellent painter of flowers, plants, natural material of food.He presents their liveliness on paper.
His publications include‘Flower - Gary Bukovnik’s Water-coloring and Monotype Painting’(1990),‘Gary Bukovnik’s Water-coloring Painting’( Publisher: Hudson Hills, 2005),‘Food and Life，Gary Bukovnik’s Water-coloring Painting Exhibition , Calendar of Projects’(2011),‘Gary Bukovnik’s Water-coloring Painting’(2011) and‘Gary Bukovnik’s Landscape Painting’(2012).
As an artist, Gary’s artworks have been collected by public and private galleries as well as individual collectors.Besides that, he makes donations, makes public speech and attends charity activity and arts exchange program.Some of his artworks have been donated to the health and culture organization.For example, since 1982 he has been donating his work to San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and since 1995 his donation was found in San Francisco Exhibition,
Metropolitan Opera in New York, International Organization for Refugee in Japan, Lincoln Centre for Performing Arts in New York, and Cleveland Festival of Arts and Songs.Up till now, Gary Bukovnik is the artist who has been cooperating with world’s renowned music groups for the most times and the longest duration.

2018年10月18日，美国艺术家盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生在我校状元楼举办了题为“盖瑞的水彩世界——水彩绘画的材料和技法”的学术讲座，由韦亦佳老师主持和翻译。盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生讲述、演示并举，与现场的参与者分享了他独特的绘画技巧和丰富的创作经验。视觉艺术学院的师生们饶有兴致地聆听了讲座，现场互动踊跃，气氛热烈。
盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生是美国著名水彩画家，擅长水彩和版画，他以对自然的热爱、对花卉之美的敏感、对材料特性和绘画技巧的驾驭，创造出众多极富魅力的画面，绚丽多彩，生机盎然，引人入胜。
盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生在讲座中生动描述了他少年时期的情结和成年后的经历，以此解释他钟情于花卉题材的渊源。他痴迷于对自然中的鲜活花卉作反复细致的观察，烂熟于心。而在绘画过程中以主观感受有意识地强化花的某些特质，作品许多部分实际以默写的方式完成。他指出，有时画家在创作过程中想表达的内容如同植物本身一样，不断生长而出，源源不绝。而在花卉造型的刻画中，盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生力求下笔笃定精准，线条细腻均匀，在某种层面竟与中国传统绘画中兼工带写的表现手法异曲同工。
盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生阐述了艺术表达的主张：一方面要自然、本真地表现艺术形象，忠实于自身感受和客观对象，而不是刻意炫耀技巧；另一方面，艺术创作要适应艺术家个人的天性，找到切合自己的表达方式。最后，艺术创造应当包含对生活的真挚情感。盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生对公益事业充满热情，曾为交响乐团捐赠作品，创作音乐海报等，他认为热爱和感恩等情感，对提高作品的纯粹性非常重要。
在互动环节，盖瑞·布科夫尼克先生认真地回答了现场学生的提问。他以幽默诙谐的语言解释了他颇具个性的穿着风格与创作心态。在谈及绘画艺术的颜色运用时，盖瑞先生认为，绘画颜色的运用只是个人的感受，色彩规律也是对众多个体感受的规纳，因此没有真正意义上的使用错误，所以绘画探索要敢于犯错，善于总结。
COURSE OUTLINE
On October 18, 2018, Gary Bukovnik, artist from USA held lecture of‘Gary’s water-coloring world-material and skills of water-coloring painting’in Zhuangyuan Building.Miss Wei Yijia anchored the lecture and were on-site translator.Gary demonstrated and presented his unique painting skills, whereas SIVA teachers and students enjoyed a lot and actively interacted.
Gary Bukovnik, a well-known water-coloring artist, is excellent in water-coloring painting and printing.His colorful, lively and intriguing artwork results from his passion towards the nature, appreciation of beauty of flower, control of material features and painting skills.Gary Bukovnik shared his experience from teenage to adulthood,explained his commitment to painting flower.As a careful observer of
flowers, he knows how to highlight traits of flower.He can paint flower from memory.He pointed out on the lecture that while painting some painters express their ideas continuously just like plant continuously growing.When depicting flower on paper, Gary pursues accurate and delicate stroke, which is similar to traditional Chinese way of painting.
Gary Bukovnik elaborated that painter should depict the image from a natural angle, follow one’s own feeling and be loyal to the objective features, rather than flaunting one’s artistic skills.On the other hand,painter shall find the way to express oneself which fits him or her the best.Moreover, artistic creation shall embody sincere emotions from life.Gary himself is passionate to charity activities, such as donating works to symphony orchestra and creating posters.To be an artist who appreciates and loves life is crucial for presenting quality artwork.
During Q&A session, Gary Bukovnik answered questions from students carefully with a good sense of humor.Students came to appreciate Gary’s special clothes style and characteristic.As of question about color choices, he responded that it’s only based on personal feelings.One cannot make mistake on choosing colors, since there is no law on color choices and the pattern is only a result from habits of the majority.To be a painter, you need to be brave to explore, to make mistakes, to summarize in order to make progress.
